Call on Dad

I remember going up north Michigan when I was in high school with some friends to go camping over the weekend. I had to work the late shift at Mickey D’s, so my friend and I couldn’t leave until late that night. I was driving a red 1986 Chevrolet S-10 detailed with rust spots. It didn’t matter how much rust you had on your vehicle as long as it had a nice set of rims. I did. Yes, I was that guy. I even had locknuts on each tire, just in case someone tried to jack my chrome. Well, let me get back to the story. I was driving down the interstate when all of the sudden I felt my tire go flat. We pulled the truck off to the shoulder of the highway and proceeded to get the tools ready to change the tire. Then all of the sudden I realized I could not find the key to my locknuts. Not really sure what to do, I did the only thing I knew to do. I called my dad. “Dad, where are you at?” He replied, “I’m just pulling into the shop,” (which was an hour away). “I’ve got a flat tire and I cannot find the key to my locknuts,” I explained. I then continued, “I looked everywhere for it and it is nowhere to be found.” My dad then explained that he would leave work and help me out.

Has anything like this ever happened to you before? Maybe your engine was smoking or you battery was dead or your car just wouldn’t start.  What did you do? Maybe you were like me and you called your dad. Remember the feeling you had before you got in touch with your dad. If you were like me you were fearful, frustrated, upset…. But once you realized your dad was coming to rescue you it seemed like all of the sudden you became brave, confident, calm and at peace.  

You see, after I called my dad, I was still stuck on the side of the road. In fact, I was still going to remain where I was for quite some time too. But none of that mattered because I knew my dad was coming. Just knowing my dad was coming completely changed my outlook on the situation. Remember, it doesn’t change the situation; I still had an unchangeable tire.

Today I want you to know that Jesus is just a call away. Many times we look at our situation and our circumstance and become easily frustrated, angry or scared because we feel like we are traveling life’s road all by ourselves. But TODAY all you need to do is call on Jesus and He will run to your rescue. Of course, calling on Jesus doesn’t necessarily change your situation, but it does change the way you look at your situation.
